Who is behind this site?  My name is Stephanie, and I’ve been running my site since 2000 at stephthegeek.com/stephthegeek.tv.  I got into camming kind of accidentally.  I had an old webcam kicking around and when I put up stephthegeek.com, I thought a webcam might be a nice draw to bring people in to check out my music, or read my blog.  A webcam was still a bit of a novelty then.  I put my cam up on several portals, and immediately got hooked on the experience of having people read about my life, and interacting with the internet at large.

I’ve always been a bit of a sexual free spirit, and over time I became more uninhibited on cam too.  I started discovering new technologies, such as streaming video, mobile photo blogging, and GPS tracking.  I love the tech behind running a personal/cam site as much as the camming itself  :)   I opened a membership (pay) site in early 2003, and have since experienced the ups and downs of having customers.  It is not my main source of income (by choice), but it more than pays for itself and lets me play with the things I love.

I first thought of starting this site (Cam Girl Lounge) back a couple of years ago, when posting on a discussion board about the things I’ve learned running my site.  I firmly believe that I have learned more valuable skills, both personally and career-benefiting, from running my site than from all other jobs I’ve had combined.  StephTheGeek.com is on my resume.  It isn’t something I hide.

The list of skills I’ve gained is long:

  • Web design
  • Programming
  • Digital cameras
  • Video capture
  • Lighting
  • Audio capture
  • Moblogging
  • Countless pieces of software and scripts
  • Web hosting
  • Server administration
  • Cellular technologies
  • Writing and editing
  • Search engine optimization
  • Photo editing
  • Video editing/encoding
  • Live video broadcasting
  • Public speaking
  • Interviewing
  • Audio blogging
  • Customer service
  • Content management systems
  • E-commerce platforms
  • Database administration
  • Shipping and inventory
  • Currency/tax issues
  • Bookkeeping/accounting
  • Registering a business
  • Incorporating
  • Marketing
  • Advertising
  • Networking (both the hardware and human kinds!)
  • Security systems
  • Copyright issues
  • Legal issues
  • TIME MANAGEMENT  :)

But of course all of these came with time, over many bumpy roads.  I knew that starting this site would help others to learn from the things I’ve learned, maybe with a few less headaches along the way.  Some things can only be discovered with experience.  And I know that many people out there aren’t as interested in the technical aspect as I am, but I am hoping that there’s something useful for everyone here.
